The Monday Corner 12/6/2010

Dear people who unnecessarily add the words 'was it' in front of a quote to try and make themselves sound more eloquent. On behalf of the thinking world we would just like to formally request you stop this, because it makes you sound like an obnoxious twat. If you're unsure of the quote say 'I believe it was' therefore leaving open the possibility that you're wrong. By saying 'was it,' your forcing on me to determine the accuracy of the quote you're trying to use to support your argument, while I'm still trying to cipher out the merits of your argument. Nobody likes this, nobody in their right mind does this.

Oh and for the record, just because you can quote Mark Twain doesn't make your argument any more correct, even Mark Twain was wrong sometimes.

For your Consideration:
Linking is what happens when you're able to capture the beauty of life in a tiny glass bubble.

In honor of the release of Black Swan, The Playlist delivers their top 25 iconic dance sequences.

Ever lovable blog The List, written by the incalculably awesome Kaiderman, turned one yesterday! Everyone get on over there and show your support.

CinemaScreen teamed up with a series of film bloggers from around the internet to present the unspoken, '11th rule' of theater conduct. My 11th rule: If you're sitting next to me, cool it on the nachos.

Feeling an ever increasing desire to pump up the love for your blog? Check out Castor's tips over at the Large Association of Movie Blogs - remember though, Univarn loves you just the way you are.

The lovely writer behind Japan Cinema has posted his top 10 Best and Worst Asian films of the year. A lot of laughs, action, and drama have graced Asian cinema this year, be sure you get in the know now so you can view later!

Poll Update:
You came, you spoke, you showed overwhelming slightly positive indifference.

Results:
1. 7 votes: Occasionally solid (fair enough, I think enough good has come to to counter the few bad - but when they're bad, they're awful)
2. 4 votes: Mostly Mediocre (too much Glitter and Swept Away will do that to you)
3. (tie) 2 votes: Seldom worth it & Dullness Personified (deep breaths, that's it)
4. 1 vote: Perfectly fine (Well, you may stand alone, but know you are not alone)

New Poll: It's the season of Christmas movies, whether you like it or not, so I want to know, how often do you check out "Christmas" films throughout the year (I put it in quotes to say not everyone agrees as to what qualifies or doesn't qualify as a Christmas film so select at your own discretion).

Odd One Out Poster Challenge:
I had a feeling a lot of you would concentrate on the squares of Buried instead, which wasn't my intention. Oh well, we all go with what we see. However, I would love to congratulate Alex for thinking completely outside the box and taking down this week's win!

"Obviously, Moon is the odd one out here because it's the only one of these 4 that's currently hanging on my wall."

However I do have to question: No love for Charade or Vertigo? What gives? :P

Soundtrack of the Week:
One of the things I absolutely love about Master and Commander is the way it blends classical music with Hollywood themes so brilliantly. Here is Luigi Boccherini's "Musica notturna delle strade di Madrid"

That's all for this week's installment, enjoy yourselves!

BTW, Univarn, I'm starting my own sort of comment contest thing at FFTSBH tomorrow (Tuesday). People come up with a witty phrase to go with a screen grab from a random movie. Head on over and take part. Thanks.

A bit early to be selecting tops and bottoms for the year, no? There's practically 1/12 of the year remaining!

Somehow I missed this earlier this week, but thanks for the win! I'm speechless, really (for once).
