The Monday Corner 11/01/2010

Halloween is now done with. Fall is slowly dwindling into the fresh chill of Winter as the temperatures decrease slowly. You stand there sucking in one last deep breath hoping to get the button through the hole on your pants. Uni sits here idly typing away another Monday corner for your reading fulfillment.

Ah, yes, what a wondrous time of the year. Now, as you find yourself debating whether you had 4 Reese's Cups or 3, having labeled 4th an arbitrary maximum, I'd like to take the time to remind you - it's not whether or not you've had 4 that matters, it's just ensuring that all your friends have had more than 5. That way, no matter what, you'll still manage to be comparably skinny. Isn't that what the Holidays are really all about?

For your Consideration:
Linkoween... sounds like a horrible kids toy. Hallolink... sounds a bit sad. Oh well.

If you haven't heard already, there's some big things going on over at the LAMB. The LAMB turns 3, and there's a changing of the guards that I'm sure we all are sad to see, but retain a strong sense of hope for the future as well.

Chasing Light, getting their first Monday Corner link, breaks down the use of the 'group composition' shot in Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

The ever delightful FlixChatter wants to know where so many of those once-famous actresses, such as Meg Ryan and Helen Hunt, have gone?

gManReviews is ready to roll heads, metaphorically speaking, with his list of the top 50 Greatest cinematic deaths. No Troll 2? I'm flabbergasted (yes I've been waiting far too long for an opportunity to use that word)!

Kid in the Front Row writes, we all read. This week Kid has a debate with his 'Inner Critic' (too much jalapeno sauce will do that to you) about whether or not he should spend his time watching films or.... working (I think we all go for the former).

Poll Update:
I may need to reshuffle the poll around some, or I'm just getting bad at poll making. Granted this has been a low comment week for me.

Results: ______ Are the Scariest!
1. 6 votes: Demons/Possessions (Only because we all know they hate leprecorns - yes that's made up)
2. (tie) 2 votes: Other (specify in comments?) & Slashers (Come on Michael Myers = M&Ms, yummy!)
3. (tie) 1 vote: Dentists (I would feel your pain but I'm on Novocaine) & Vampies (razzle and dazzle!)
4. 0 votes: everyone else.

New Poll: I watched Hereafter this week and have taken it up to travel around to various blogs and read all the mixed reviews on it. I want to know: Do you Believe Clint Eastwood has lost his directorial touch?

Original Score of the Week:
There's something beautiful, and yet wonderfully subtle, about this theme from To Kill a Mockingbird by Elmer Bernstein

As you may have noticed I've been shuffling around with the last segment a lot recently. I've done everything from film facts to scores to nutritional facts. If there's one you particularly enjoy, prefer, or dislike let me know so that I may make it a regular feature, or remove it entirely.

Have a great day everybody!

@Castor Aye, life always happens.

@Simon I concur, most curious.

@Andrew It doesn't matter, it still deserves a spot :P. The death there is classic.

Demons and the Devil are the scariest thanks to The Exorcist, The Omen and Rosemary's Baby for me. Having said that the werewolves in An American Werewolf are some scary creatures!

Many thanks for the shout-out, Univarn... so honored to be part of your Linkoween :D

Sorry I miss your poll but I'd agree that demonic possession stuff is the most terrifying!
