The Monday Corner 06/27/2011

New Movies Watched This Past Week:

Samurai Assassin - Incredibly beautiful film, not nearly as slow as I'd been told, but could have been a bit tighter in the final plotting. Still, final fight scene = mint.

For your Consideration:
One Link 5 Dolla. Two link 15 Dolla. Three Link? Ohhh Fifty Dolla! Link Inflation... what a bitch.

Rachel of Rachel's Reel Reviews celebrating her fourth wedding anniversary in style - with four movie quotes on love. My Grandparents will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year (no lie)... I had a momentary thought trying to do the same then remembered I lack the romantic film know-how and decided a card would cover it. Hey, it was a very good card!

The Droid You're Looking For has taken up the reins of MS Paint and interwoven a collection of familiar movie faces with the undisputed champion of blot images. Still, awesome is as awesome does - and this is awesome.

Simon-Ripley-H.R. Pufnstuf (you asked for name recognition) of Four of Them takes issue with pop culture's representation of twins, and the dire personal consequences they have invoked. I originally thought this was a gross exaggeration until I remembered Lindsay Lohan played twins in Parent Trap... that's a low blow by anyone's standards.

With Moneyball on tap for a high profile release this year, Sam of Film Intel takes a look inside what makes the book upon which it is based so intriguing. Personally, I evaluate all athletes entirely on the Shakira-Weathers scale; it's all in the hips people....

Film Connoisseur earns the Univarn seal of approval with his in depth look at Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo! At this rate, I'll have everyone on the Kurosawa bandwagon in no time. I just simply have to 'take care of' those few remaining detractors!

Poll Update:
You may not always trust critics, but you certainly don't trust voting!

Results: How often do critics influence your movie watching selection?
1.11 votes: Depends on the film. Some they just don't get (i.e. movies that make a crapload of money solely on the backbone of their name - had to be said)
2. 3 votes: Sometimes - there's a handful I really trust (good - I think everyone should have at least one critic they rely on when they're uncertain on whether or not to fork over the money for a film)
3. 1 vote: Never - because I don't let anyone influence my decisions (seems fair enough, but fair warning - be wary of the walls you may walk into along the way... they can add up)

New Poll: Much has been made of whether or not Tom Hanks still has it following the crash and burn reception of Da Vinci code. I want to know - where are you with respect to the on the Tom Hanks bandwagon?

Movie Soundtrack of the Week:
Because I still contend Memento is Nolan's best film:

Have a great Monday everybody!

I do not believe that Scott Hatteberg (or Billy Beane for that matter) was ever known for shaking his hips but, hey... if you ask him nicely...

(many thanks, as always, for Monday Corner featuring)

THANK YOU, dear fellow. For both the snazzy new name and the sympathy for our very redheaded problem.
