FlixChatter Review: The Piano Lesson (2024) – Malcolm Washington’s
adaptation of August Wilson’s play is intense and spine-chilling, with a
scene-stealing performance by Danielle Deadwyler
-
This has been quite a year for the Washington family. Its patriarch Denzel
Washington is currently chewing the scenery starring in Gladiator II.

Obligatory DVD Release Post 3/15/2011
Welcome to the DVD Jungle. For your safety we ask that you please don't feed the Bruckheimers.
New Releases:
The Fighter: You know what would have made this movie better - Tickle Me Elmo. Universal truth - adding a Tickle Me Elmo to any film involving men fighting is automatically increased in awesomeness by fifteen fold. Why do you think Gladiator has been so successful? What? You didn't know there was a Tickle Me Elmo in Gladiator? Wow... next think you'll be telling me you didn't know Tickle Me Elmo was the central character in The Godfather.
Hereafter: You know, I'm not sure I can say much about this movie. It's opening sequence is going to hit way too close to home given recent events, so I would preface anything by saying: be forewarned. Second, I would like to say that Clint Eastwood... if you mess up J. Edgar, you and me are going to have to partake in a sit down talk about this. Hereafter barely survived the snore test, but you're running on fumes.
The Switch: Just about every review I've read for this one has used some combination of the words 'horrible,' 'disgraceful,' and 'Jennifer Aniston.' I'll let you decide which of the three is primary reason I'm in no rush to see this anytime soon.
Waste Land: I will see this. For the first time in a long time (ever) I fully intend to see every Best Documentary Oscar nominee and this is the one that has eluded me. *Whips out gloves* It's clobbering time (gah, if only that movie didn't blow then that reference would be so much more fun).
Other Releases: A Shine of Rainbows (seriously? worst title since good ol' HC?), The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest (you go person), Hemingway's Garden of Eden (when will Hollywood ever learn?)
Other Goodies:
Sharktopus (Blu-Ray): To hell with the rest, this is the must see DVD of the week!
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (Blu-Ray): Because people over thirty still think it's hip to quote this.
Au Revoir Les Enfants (Criterion): 1) It's Criterion. 2) It has the phrase Au Revoir in it. I'm sold.
Well ladies and gents that's about all I got for you this evening. Hope you enjoy yourselves! And, as always, happy hunting.

WASTE LAND and THE FIGHTER would be my choices. I was okay with HEREAFTER, but could have done without the storyline of the little boy.
Love it!!
I am never going to be able to watch a fighting film again without thinking of a tickle me elmo!!
Very funny but insightful post
Thanks
Looking forward to revisit The Fighter. Waste Land also seems like a good choice. Not really interested in seeing The Switch or Hereafter at all.
This has nothing to do with the post, but where's the "HE'S SUPER SEXY" option on your Bradley Cooper poll?????
Don't forget, Dragon Dynasty releases 'Battle of the Warriors' on Blu-ray today. Their blu-rays don't always have the best picture quality, but it's still clearly better than DVD, features commentary from Hong Kong cinema expert Bey Logan and it's cheap.
@Mad I hate to be rude but I just don't think he was much of an actor
@Custard Thanks - I try... kind of.
@Castor Took all my thoughts and put them into two sentences.... no elmo though? lame.
@Nikhat Because this isn't E!.... ? I'm talking acting, not looking!
@edgarchaput Good call, I'll keep an eye out for that one.
@ Univarn... Which actor would you be referring to?
Mark Wahlberg says there's more to the story of Micky Ward:

One viewing of Sharktopus was enough! Although SyFy's Battle for Lost Angeles made even that awful film look good.
I can't recommend Hereafter at all. It was a plodding, disengaging mess. Wasteland is also the only Doco nominee to elude me. I don't remember its release here in Australia.
@Rich Well it's his best character since The Departed so I don't doubt that, but I can't imagine them getting Bale up for another go around - and that's going to be a tough sale.
@AlexJ You haven't lived until you've stayed up through a twenty-four hour Shaktopus marathon!
@Andy I enjoyed it enough to get through the run time, but I don't go out openly recommending it to people.
Strange Wilderness is horrible. The Switch is just there, waiting to be forgotten by everyone within 14 months, if not sooner. It's not offensively bad, there's just very little that's good about it, either.
