The Monday Corner 10/11/2010

101010 has come and gone, and I believe I speak for all of us when I say it shall be sorely missed. With it came laughter, a good array of Hitchhiker's references for our binary inclined, and the desire to do something memorable at 10:10 on 101010. What did I do at 10:10? Well, something you'd never guess. I tickled a rhino so hard it sneezed all over two turtles and a meerkat. What were all those animals doing together? Well, that's for me to know, and you to fantasize about. Go on, you know you wanna!

For your Consideration:
Link = (Love + Appreciation) ^ 2

The Dark of the Matinee reached a truly admirable record this week, hitting his 1000th post! And in his usual, well planned, fashion, too the opportunity to tell you why Almost Famous is his all time favorite film.

Film Geek sheds a bit of light on her dreams and aspirations with a great post on Pauline Kael and film criticism.

Film Intel takes a crack at exposing the flaws in The Guardian's list of the 100 people who help "shake the experience of film viewing in the UK."

Simon from Four of Them counts down the top 5 David Bowie film performances.... there were more than 5?

Anomalous Material is looking to put together the first, as far as I know, online Film Community Potluck! A great idea, and well thought out. Be sure to have a look if you're among the Netflix users!

Poll Update:
Was a close one this week, as always - thanks to everyone who voted!

Results:
1. 7 votes: Helen Mirren (damn right!)
2. 4 votes: Bruce Willis (late charge, but completely understandable... I'm just glad for no blonde wig)
3. (tie) 2 votes: Morgan Freeman & John Malkovich (No JM love? Come on!!!!)
4. 1 vote: Other (Care to name in the comments?)

New Poll: I want to know - What is the OLDEST film you've watched? This will be done in intervals of 20 years (I'm only counting narrative films - starting with A Trip to the Moon in 1902 - or there in about)

Quote of the Week:
"I think that many confuse 'applicability' with 'allegory'; but the one resides in the freedom of the reader, and the other in the purposed domination of the author." - J.R.R Tolkein
