Ladies and gents, I give you the first, LiE Haiku. In honor of this week's amazing lineup of releases.....
New Releases:
Killers: Ever see a turd, and think: I wonder what that tastes like? Yeah, me neither. And this one, well let's be honest, you can smell the stench a good 10 miles off. Then again, as I've always said, different things appeal to different people. So, have at it you crazy hooligans! Just remember, it's all your fault, and we all blame you. Try sleeping at night now!
MacGruber: Ah, just what I need to wash down this foul taste. A movie so out of date, it might actually pre-date the material it's spoofing. Don't get me wrong, I've always thought MacGyver was infinitely open to parody. I just figured it'd occur within 15 years of its heyday... give or take one or two. Of course when you pile on top of that the coveted SNL skit turned movie crown. Which has created classics like It's Pat - the movie nobody saw, A Night at the Roxbury - horribly guilty of amusing (emphasis on the word horrible), and Superstar - yeah, I didn't see it either. Oh joy is me, let me rush to the DVD counter now, and request one sweet ride. Honestly though, I do kind of want to see this.... Such is my curse.
Solitary Man: Michael Douglas stars in a film with lots of names above the title! What more could anyone possibly want? Well, let's not answer that one for the time being. To be frank out of all the new releases this one is arguably the real star of the week. As far as new releases are concerned. I like Douglas, and the supporting cast is certainly eye catching (even if I fear many are just names to attract said eyes). Hopefully it'll be a decent affair, and not a wasted effort.
Other Releases - Sex Drive (up two blocks and take a left), Phantom (Where's Billy Zane when you need him?), That Evening Sun (no, not that one, the other one!), The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond (my god, that might be the most overly sentimental title I've ever read - darn you Tennessee Williams!)
Some Goodies:
THX-1138 (blu-ray): Because there's a certain element of beauty and narrative power to this pre-Star Wars Lucas film. A film all too often overlooked.
Stardust (blu-ray): I've said it before, I'll say it again - if you haven't seen this, you're selling yourself short. It's just pure entertainment, dark comedic gold.
Other Noteworthy Releases - Forbidden Planet (blu-ray), Mars Attacks (blu-ray), all the movies listed in the foresection (blu-ray)
That's all folks! Cya tomorrow. Same Uni-time. Same Uni-channel. I now turn you over to CS who will likely fill you in on the TV shows coming to DVD this week.

I can't wait to dig my teeth into this week's DVD releases!!!!
...thank you Uni!
Okay, so while the movie releases this week make flossing look fun we have some great TV shows being released this week. My personal favorite is Chuck Season 3, if you haven't watched Chuck you're doing yourself a great disservice the show is worth watching for Yvonne Strahovski alone, but luckily there's so much more to the show that makes it great, the rest of the cast, the guest stars, the action, the comedy, the romance, and once again Yvonne Strahovski!
Also we have some other shows I enjoy like Smallville Season 9, Supernatural Season 5, and The Office Season 6. All on Blu-ray and DVD, all worth checking out, still I emphasize the greatness of Chuck... you must watch, especially if you're a fan of a lot of 1980's homages and TV stars of the 1980's. They had an episode in Season 2 where one of the characters bought a Delorean which only drove about 10 miles an hour... pure comedy.
That's all for this week! Back to you Univarn!
Yeah, sad when TV has more to offer...
FYI Solitary Man is kind of lame. Michael Douglas is good and the supporting cast gets some good moments, but it's very "eh" overall. The story is kind of stupid, also.
Glad to hear Stardust is getting a blu-ray release! Love that movie.
PS Um so I've totally seen It's Pat. At least twice. Mostly only because it co-stars my favorite Kid in the Hall, though. I've also seen Superstar, but only once all the way through I think. In fact I've probably seen the majority of SNL sketch movies even though almost all of them suck super hard. Weird.
I have to agree a bit with Alex regarding "Solitary Man." Douglas is superb, and there are some great moments (the final scene between Douglas and Sarandon is pitch-perfect), but overall, it's tough to recommend. The material feels too recycled.
It's just Killers, okay? I don't want Katharine Heigl's name anywhere near Ava Gardner's.
@Castor Three cheers!? Or should I just keep a ambulance on stand by for you?
@CS You know, I had this odd feeling you'd mention Chuck. No idea why......
@AlexJ Makes me want to watch TCM 24/7. Or read. Or debate the merits of paint throwing.
@Alex I've sat through them all as well. Each time feeling as if a bit of my soul has been sucked away. Then again, Night at the Roxbury is a movie I have a weird calling to. Much like a Moth to light. I keep telling myself it wasn't as bad as I remember... then I watch it again.
@Danny Hmmm. Maybe I'll give it to the ol' "wait till I have nothing better to do and have forgotten about it pile."
@Simon My mistake, fixed. I wouldn't dare intentionally put them near one another. In name, or otherwise.
Great to hear the news. I waiting from a very longtime for the DVD release of the movie Killers. I can't wait for more and will go to check the store to grab some .
September is a tragic month for me. Barely any good DVD or theater releases. None of those films listed above perked my interest enough for the theater and not really even for DVD, though my hubby may eventually coerce me into watching MacGruber.
