Obligatory DVD Release Post 8/31/2010

I must admit to being wary of doing Obligatory DVD release post as of late. Nay, it is still among my most popular series. Even more so than my ramblings and podcasting, as sad as I am to admit it. So as long as you request it. I shall abide. Though I do believe the tone for this week is: oh crap, I completely forgot that even existed....

New Releases:

Harry Brown: For me this is the highlight of the week. I love old school Michael Caine with Italian Job, Get Carter, even Sleuth (though I would note Sleuth is incredibly different from the prior). And if Harry Brown taps even a microcosm of that tough guy lure I shall abide wonderfully. Mixed reviews shall not assuage as I set out to rent it. Though I do wonder, if we remove Sean Connery from the conversation, who would take #2 on the UK sexy old guy scale.

Marmaduke: Lee Pace..... Please, never do this again. Marmaduke bombed faster than a Kim Jong Il Hawaiian theme dance party. I can't name 5 people who've seen it. And of those I can, few dare remember it. As if hidden throughout its runtime is a series of inner battles as to challenge the viewer. So as to make those who reach the credits heroes, and veterans of war, on their own right. I dare say.... please Hollywood, whoever thought this idea should be ashamed.

Why Did I Get Married Too?: Better question - Why Did I get Made Too? Oh yeah, Money. While I acknowledge I am not among the Tyler Perry fanbase, nor am I among the target demographic, I still don't why people seek out his films. Of his 2 films that I've seen I can't honestly differentiate them. One of which (Diary of a Mad Black Woman) I've ranked among the worst films I've ever seen (if for no other reason than I felt my life being sucked from me with each passing second, and by second I mean millennia). So, if this is your cup of tea have at it. I shall not say anything otherwise.

Other Releases: Spread (You know, the one where Ashton Kutcher does those women), 9th Company (to be followed by 10th Company: The Legend of Curly's Gold), Made for Each Other (but apparently not for viewers), "Clear Lake, WI" (why they're dvd feels the need to throw out names nobody knows is beyond me).

Other Goodies:

The Evil Dead (Blu-Ray - Limited Edition): This should be a given. No explanation needed. Granted the entire trilogy treated as such would be far more appreciable.

Red Riding Trilogy (Blu-Ray): I still need to see this, and the ever pressing desire to see Paddy Considine on the screen again may be more than the push I need to do so.

Well ladies and gents, that's all for this week's exciting installment. Hope you all find what you so desperately seek!

We have only just had Marmaduke released here at the cinema in the UK. It really does look incredibly bad. What possessed Owen Wilson.

But Harry Brown is pretty good - and it is great to see Michael Caine as the lead actor in a film again ... in a revenge role...

Looking forward to seeing Harry Brown! Michael Caine revenge sounds like a fun ride. Marmaduke, not so much.

And like the 19th home release for Evil Dead. Do they really expect me to keep buying it every year?

Yuck, hated Harry Brown. Need to watch the Red Riding Trilogy.

What's even worse is that Tyler Perry's next movie (an extra-long title I can't remember and don't care to look up) is getting Oscar buzz....

Just saw HARRY BROWN in a rep theatre two weeks ago and loved it - make sure you give it a look!

Red Riding is pretty awesome and Paddy Considine is really really great in part 2. See it.

I don't know ONE person who saw Marmaduke.
And yeah, Evil Dead on BluRay is a given.

Agreeing with Chase here. Since when does Tyler Perry go from making a series of forgettable movies to becoming a potential Oscar nominee?

I received my copy of The Vampire Diaries season 1 on Blu-ray today ;) I know you don't care but it's a new release today so it warrants a mention and is more entertaining than anything else that was released today. It's a modern day Dark Shadows and I love it.
