Obligatory Weekend Movie Post 7/9/2010

Well well well, we meet again. Only this time you shall not escape from my grasp! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA

Wait a second, is this the auditions for The Avengers villain? No? Obligatory what? Oh crap, I went into the wrong studio again! Next time, I'll get it right for sure! Now, where did I park my scooter?

New Releases

Predators: Let's be honest when Adrien Brody becomes one of the most dangerous men in the world you know the Hollywood tough guy pool is getting thin. Still, I'd way Brody in just about anything, and recently that's been to my dismay (Brother's Bloom excluded). Yet I can't help but think that this looks like a solid tossback to 80's badassery. And while I'm sure it won't compare to the awesome cheese of the first, I'm excited to check this one out!

Despicable Me: I have to be honest when I say the early positive reviews on this one have thrown me for a loop. Not one trailer for this looked even the least bit interesting, and I'm still lacking any anticipation for it. Especially with Toy Story 3 out there that I haven't seen (been out of town a lot recently). I'm going to hold this one down for a DVD rental, baring any rave reviews from my fellow bloggers.

Limited Releases

The Kid's Are Alright: The buzz for this one's been looming for quite a while, and it's got the kind of cast I can get behind. Moore is always a plus, and I've been a big champion of Ruffalo for some time now (basically since I first saw him in Collateral). We'll see how it all pans out, but this one's well on my radar.

The Girl Who Played With Fire: Sequel to Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, this one's finally coming stateside itself, and I've heard nothing but mixed things about it. Once I see the original that will decide my anticipation level for this one, but who knows. Maybe it's one of those "have to see them all to understand" film series?

Rec 2: Quite enjoyed Rec, can't wait for the sequel. Curious to see how they approach it.

Grease (Sing-a-long): Hey, I love Grease as much as the next person, but this just sounds like an awful idea. Maybe great in the comfort of your own home, but out in public with a bunch of wannabe musicians and people overly confident in their singing voices whaling away, yeah, I'll pass.

I vote PLAYED WITH FIRE, though I find myself a tad curious since I've heard rumour that in Sweeden it was filmed for TV and might not have the production values of the first film.

We shall see...

DESPICABLE ME and PREDATORS look like they might be good stupid fun...or they might be another pair of entries into this underperforming craptastic summer. I'll let you be the canary in the coal mine.

Looking forward to Predators, but I have no hope for it to be good. It's always better to have no expectations.

Haven't seen Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet (soon!) but I'll probably watch the sequel at some point.

From a non-animation fan like myself Despicable Me actually looks pretty funny, I'm not going to pay to see it, but I'll definitely watch it on DVD.

Predators I've heard good things about so far, but never really been into the series, plus the cast seems completely off... I mean Topher Grace! C'mon.

Solid weekend for limited releases. Will try to catch "Kids" and "Fire."

I wanna see The Kids Are Alright so bad! Also my gay middle-aged housing director had nothing but good things to say about the grease sing-a-long :p

Why doesn't Adrien Brody just embrace his nerdiness?
