Some DVDs are meant to be owned. Some are meant to look pretty on store shelves. And then, there are the select few. Those that are meant to be owned, and look pretty on shelves. My god, could you ever imagine such a thing? The end of the world will occur first, please tip your waitresses. Or something like that....
New Releases
A Single Man: Yeah yeah yeah, Colin Firth is a great actor, yada yada. But can he disco? Oh yes, ladies and gents, that's the real measure of an actor in my book. Emotions schmotions, Disco is the measure of quality. And if you don't believe my, just ask John Travolta! So get to it Firth, I'll be waiting. Official Film Review
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: Meet The Boy with the Leprechaun earring. Now you two, begin your mating ritual. It's ok, I'm sure it'll only take 3 screams, and a little bit of blood sharing, so I'll wait patiently. Just remember, slapping is only allowed if you have the official slapping symbol (the nose ring). Dragon lady, you can only breath fire. Leprechaun boy you can only wear green condoms. Hey, don't blame me I didn't make up the rules! Oh, review up for this film shortly as well.
Brooklyn's Finest: When grading on a very large curve. Richard Gere, what's happened to you man? You're letting us down. And Ethan Hawke, shouldn't you be working on Before Noon or something!? We need it! And fast! How else am I going to get my Celine and Jesse resolution! And Don Cheadle... well, I hope you're happy. More Hotel Rwanda and Talk to Me, less this, and definitely less Hotel for Dogs (you owe me $$ for that one). Please cast, find your footing again!
Other Releases: Eyeborgs (the name makes me smile) & Bitten (past tense = scary)
Other Goodies
Steamboat Bill Jr.: Buster Keaton is just comedic gold. He's Jackie Chan, minus the dialogue, plus the style, grace, and 10 times the creativity. I know there is the film Limelight, but I would have killed to see Chaplin and Keaton going at it in their prime during the 20's. If only a film could be found to have brought them together, even with their very differing styles.
Chicago: The original 1927 silent film that inspired 47's Roxy Heart, and the Oscar winning 2002 film of the same name, finally restored! Count me in. Now I just have to get my wig, and sexy dancing shoes, ready to rumble.

I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea what Eyeborgs is but I would watch it based purely on the title. Also Richard Gere's descent into suckage makes me sad. What size dancing shoes you got?
I don't know, it is faulty but I still remember Brooklyn's Finest not least because of what the actors do with their time.
on Chicago why do I get the feeling you already have that wig...?
I love Buster Keaton. By far my favorite silent comedian. I actually got into him because of Jackie Chan too.
Hmmm...DRAGON TATTOO and SINGLE MAN on the same day?? Talk about a swell week for new releases.
Were I to rent, I'd have to go with DRAGON, since its sequel THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE hits Toronto screens this week.
Oh cool I've never seen the original Chicago, just the other two! I'll have to check that out.
@Sugary Depends, my bedazzled red ones are 12's while my high heels are only 10's. Wait, I think I've revealed too much! Ummm, so how about that sport thing the other day? rawr, manly!
@Andrew Well, I keep trying to convince people to buy me a jumbo Afro wig, but no dice.
@silver I'm more of a Chaplin guy, but as Roger Ebert justly pointed out - it's hard to deny the heart Keaton put into each film.
@Mad Plan to check out Dragon Tattoo one day this week, didn't realize it was 2 1/2 hours.
@Alex Do, and let me know!
Hotel for Dogs owes a lot of people...
A Single Man- One of the last films that I need to watch before making my top 10 lists for last year.
Girl with a Dragon Tatoo- This just opened up in theaters on Friday here in Lincoln. Was on my way to see it when I looked up on my phone that it was coming out on DVD today. No use in wasting $8 when this should be on Netflix instant play sometime soon.
Woo.
I love Chaplin too, but Keaton's physicality is so much fun to watch. Really like Harold Lloyd as well, I think he's just as good as Keaton and Chaplin but he's not nearly as well known these days.
For people who were thinking of buying or renting the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Netflix just recently added the film to instant watch. I'm looking forward to renting A Single Man in the near future.
@Alex most definitely.
@Red Yeah, I'll be checking out Tattoo in the next few days. Will have a review of either it, or Micmacs up Thursday.
@Simon trying to boost a comment count with one word?
@Silver I need to see more Harold Lloyd, caught one late night on TCM, but haven't had the chance to delve further.
@Dreher good stuff, thanks for the update.
There would be no good reason to try and boost my comment count, as there is no commenting contest to my knowledge, you already know of me and my blog (and therefore, no need for publicity), and nobody will look at that comment and say "Gee, that's a swell person right there, we should become her undying worshippers." So, in short, yes.
