DVD releases used to be such an exciting time. Each week a film I desperately wanted to see. Aching at the back of my mind to rush out and check it out immediately. Now... I feel like I just want a hug, lollipop, and a good book. Not necessarily in that order, but any will do. To be honest, I'd rather eat soup in a padded cell than watch most of this week's releases. Oh joy. Here we go!
New Releases
The Bounty Hunter: Also known as: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Beg for an Atom Bomb. Don't get me wrong I think there are few people who seem as approachable, and personable, as Gerard Butler. But his movies list more like the torture manifesto at Gitmo than the filmography of a bonified film star. And Jennifer Aniston. Well, we'll always have Friends. Wait, never liked you on that show either. Where's Lisa Kudrow when you need her?
Chloe: Let me explain to you how blown out of the water I was when I watched this movie. I was so blown away that not only did I not review it, but that I had forgotten 30 minutes later that I had watched it. That's not an easy feat with multiple Amanda Seyfried sex scenes, including one lesbian one with Julianne Moore, whom I have a huge crush on. I couldn't label this film if I wanted to. I honestly just don't care. Lets see what's next!
Greenberg: Meet Iceberg. Together you will take over the Lettuce World! That's about all I have to say about that (+1 point for the reference!)
Other Releases: Our Family Wedding (thanks for not inviting me), Don't You Forget About Me (already have), The Greatest (Carrie you most definitely are), 8: The Mormon Proposition (OMG THE MORMONS NOOOOOOOOOOO! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Yeah, they're the crazy ones)
Other Goodies:
In Bruges (blu-ray): One of my favorite films of the year, if not the decade, comes to Blu-Ray (the Monday Corner image should give that away mind you)! Now, one of these days I'll be bothered enough to buy a Blu-Ray player... not today.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: XVIII: I don't mention these sort of things often, but it's MST3K! If I have to explain to you why it's listed, you should leave my friends list now. And be forever ashamed of yourself.
Best of luck with your DVD hunting. I recommend just watching TV... or maybe seeing something else? Maybe a movie you missed last year? Yeah.... it's not getting easier really.

Remember when I said that one silent pleasure I get in life is silently judging the people who work at my local theatre for the film listed on their name badge as "Their Favorite"?
Another silent pleasure I would get, is working a rental place this week and silently judging everybody who came in to rent the awfulness that is THE BOUNTY HUNTER.
My vote: watch CHLOE to see how good Atom Egoyan makes Toronto look. T-Dot represent!!
Uggggh why is everything so awful. At least we have Inception this weekend, and I'm totally into The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
My DVD viewing will consist of some Sidney Lumet movies for the upcoming LAMB blogathon!
dang, slim pickings indeed. At least there's MST3K
Ima watch me some Vertigo.
@Mad I just imagine you behind the counter going "Oh, The Bounty Hunter... why do you hate yourself so much?"
@Alex I wasn't into the Sorcerer's Apprentice, but I've been hearing good things. Even The Playlist liked it, and that's almost always a good sign for a mainstream film. I wonder how much of it is worn down by this year though.
@Sugary All we ever need is MST3k
@Simon Can't go wrong with Stewart and Hitchcock.
Speaking of MST3K, does anyone know how to get a full season? Netflix is being difficult.
I hate when it's DVD release day and there's nothing worth spending 4 bucks on... it's just depressing!
Ahhh The Bounty Hunter... the movie that sparked my open letter for Mr. Butler. I love the guy, he just, um haven't been selective enough in choosing his roles (I know, I'm being kind). But don't give up on him yet, his next two movies are years away from banal rom-coms! Btw, I'm hoping to see In Bruges one of these days.
