The Monday Corner 6/14/2010

Why is the sky blue? It's not, it's really orange... you need new eyes.

Why do dog's "bark?" They don't. Nothing they do sounds remotely like bark, or bow wow for that matter. Who came up with these?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Salt, Pepper, and a Cooking Pan.

Am I fat? Yes.

Why did Noah take 2 of each species of animal? He didn't, learn to read. "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens..."

There, now Uni has solved all of life's riddles. You can go about your day with linkage ahoy!

For your Consideration:
Did you know, every time you link to a fellow blogger they grow wings? Or, close enough... they get a free chicken.

The LAMMY's are in full swing as the winners are being rolled out two by two. No shoe buckling, but pure joy and cheers for all indeed.

Speaking of LAMMY's. Fresh off a win for Funniest Writer, Final Girl proved as much last week with a comic strip review. Begging many a twitterers to ask: why aren't all film reviews done in comic form?

Life of a Cinephile seeks to understand the inner workings of your mind with the prevailing question: why do you blog? As for me... well, obviously my medication isn't working and I need something to do!

Anomalous Material's Comedy Tournament is rolling along quite nicely. Heading on into day 7 as we speak (or I speak, and you read... or I write, whatever). And while many of my favorite films are getting the early shaft (seriously, Galaxy Quest > Some Like it Hot, a plague upon your houses!), it's all in good fun. At this point I'm thinking a double shot of brandy, and just sitting back and watching is the best choice.

With Liam Neeson on the mind Big Thoughts From a Small Mind tackles the man's best, and worst, films. But with a title like Fricassee Five Friday, do you need any more reason to check it out?

Mad Hatter and Dark of the Matinee (fresh off a LAMMY for best Podcast, Congrats!) ponders the issues involved when one partner wants to see something the other doesn't. My recommendation: go cavemen, whack the disagreeing party over the head, and drag them to the theater!

I finally got a Stained Glass Sunday right! I don't have anything especially in depth to say. I just wanted to point that out.

The submissions are in, and only the voting lay ahead. Rachel's Reel Reviews needs you help in deciding a new tagline. Support thy fellow bloggers, Support!

Lastly, but certainly not leastly (yes, I'm just making up my own words) He Shot Cyrus has now delved into the realm of Podcast tom-foolery (or something like that) along with his missus. Be sure you check it out!

Poll Update:
If this weekend's box office showed anything, it's TV to Film Adaptations are almost interesting to people.

But, with 26 votes this may be my most popular poll yet. And a photo finish to boot! I'm all gumdrops and smiles today (wow, should I just hand over my masculine card, or have I been watching too much Stephen Fry?)

Results:
1. 9 votes: Nostalgic, but only passable (works for me).
2. 8 votes: Indifferent to my kind (aka: anyone under 20).
3. 6 votes: Nostalgic, but upsettingly bad (happens when you lose context).
4. 3 votes: Awesome in every way (and we salute you for it).
5. 0 votes: Unwanted... (well, at least nobody hates them).

New Poll: Toy Story 3 is upon us! Now, that's not the next disaster film from Roland Emmerich (but if he makes it I'm demanding half). What I want to know is: How do you feel about the Pixar juggernaut?

Interesting Film Fact of the Week:
In honor of my FINAL LINE PROJECT, one I hope you're all willing to partake, and assist in, I have an interesting fact for you. During Edward G. Robinson's final scene in Soylent Green, Charlton Heston's Thorn begins to cry. This was not brilliant acting on Heston's part, as much as it was a real emotion. Heston was the only individual on the set who knew Robinson was actually dying of cancer at the time.

So agree with you on Some Like It Hot getting snubbed in the tournament. Then again, I haven't seen Galaxy Quest yet...

Thanks for the mention!

Glad you mentioned He Shot Cyrus' spiffy new podcast as I've really enjoyed listening to it over the first two episodes.

Everybody should be listening to it!

Thanks for the link brother! Some Like it Hot getting snubbed is surprising but that's what makes the tournament fun!

My campaign to get Some Like It Hot more votes backfired...I think all the extra promotion seemed to stir the Galaxy Quest brigade into action.

@MovieNut Don't get me wrong, Galaxy Quest is hilarious, it's jut not an all time great/classic (to me)

@Mad It is a fun podcast, Rachels' Reel Reviews also had her first one. All these two people podcast's make me think I should get a partner.

@Castor Fun, yes. Great Dictator losing though, breaks my heart. Really does. I might just go on a commenting spree so I can do a post on the film on your site, only to rant about people not voting for it.

@Dan Yeah, me too. I tried to keep it with like minded film buffs, but number of people who've seen a movie 5 years old will always outweigh those who've seen a movie 50+ years old.

Thanks for the link love! I need all the voters with good taste to participate!

Mad, Uni - I'm kind of pissed at Scott/Whitney. For a show only two episodes in, it sounds way too friggin' good. I'm starting to think I need to get in on the borrowing music train as well. It can make a show sound exponentially more pro. Content is king, but the little things go a long way.

"All these two people podcast's make me think I should get a partner."

You should. I don't know if anyone can really pull off a solo show.

LOL...congrats on your getting an SGC finally.
