Obligatory DVD Release Post May 11, 2010

I hereby decree May 11th, in the year of 2010, to be the new Obligatory Save Your Money Release Post day! Yes, ladies and gents, one look at this week's new dvd lineup, I'd highly recommend you just save any money you have....

Have you tried investing in Ostrich farms?

New Releases:

Edge of Darkness: It's always a dangerous thing when someone gets close to the edge of darkness. If you don't time your double clap right they'll walk right into the wall. Damn you clap-on clap-off lights, damn you!!!!!! Unfortunately for this movie, the only thing dark about it was the back of my eyelids as they quietly nodded off. My Review

Legion: Paul Bettany..... Dennis Quaid..... I know paychecks are nice, but could you at least try and look harder. Quaid's stuck with the "who the hell is shining that light in my eye" look the entire time while Bettany seems to have phoned in his dialogue from down the street. They're both among my favorite performers to watch, but this movie is just garbage. I couldn't even enjoy its campiness. You can listen to my discussion of the film on podcast #9, here.

Daybreakers: They tried. They really did try. I give them that much at least. But with such an overbearing coldness to the personalities, compounded with one of the more laughably cheesy "twists," Daybreakers limps to the end taking every Matrix (and Equilibrium) shot it can hoping to squeeze by. Signs your movie sucks: it has a redneck unnecessarily named Elvis (I'm putting that in the books). My Review

Other Releases: Malice in Wonderland, Elysium, One Deadly Summer, How I Got Lost

Other Goodies:

Now, here we have some things worth mentioning.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights (Blu-Ray): God I love this movie. Compound that with the simultaneous release of another Brooks blu-ray film, History of the World Part 1 and you've got me hooked in for the weekend.

Toy Story 1 & 2 Special Editions: What do they have in them? I don't know. It's Toy Story! If you need to know anymore, then you're barking up the wrong tree.

M (Criterion Collection): For a time there I had labeled this film the anti-Google film. How does one look up a movie with just M in the title! Thankfully now more sites have applies movie/film to it, making it easier to look up. Be sure to check out this classic thriller :)

That's all I got for you lovely people today. Ciao.

Hatter's pick of the week: "M" trumps all this early-2010 filler. Forsake the cinematic cheeseburgers and go for the classic.

Edge of Darkness... I'll be able to rent it in a month... thanks Netflix for selling out to Warner Bros. Still haven't seen all these great streaming catalog films we were supposed to get out of it!

@Mad Most definitely. But I have to say Cheeseburgers = my favorite food, so be careful with the comparisons :)

@Alex Ok, then, sorry, never really do TV shows unless it's one that I absolutely love.

@MVP Somehow I feel as if you're actually getting benefited not being able to rent Edge of Darkness.

@Castor Maybe you'll enjoy it more than me, but I couldn't stand it much.

Yeah I know I'm just very excited since it's one of my favorite shows and it's been a very, very long wait for the DVD. Also there were two movies made that are part of the collection, so it's sort of relevant?

I'll get Legion and Daybreakers tomorrow from Netflix. I know they'll be terrible (I've seen their trailers) but I'm just that curious.

I'll definitely give Edge of Darkness a rent, seems like a movie to watch on a lazy day.
