Obligatory DVD Release Post January 19, 2010

*singing* What if Uni was one of us! Just a slob like one of us *ends singing*

Wait a second Uni, you are a slob...

Crap. But I'm still not one of you.

Then, what are you?

*grabs probe* Oh... you'll find out, hey is that a penny on the ground? Dun dun dunnnnnnnn

New Releases:

Whiteout: Kate Beckinsale stars as the inventor of the much beloved pen erasing liquid, whiteout! No? She's searching for a killer in Antarctica? Wait a second that means she has to wear thick, heavy clothes... oh screw this movie!

The Invention of Lying: I had no plans to see this until the Golden Globes where Ricky Gervais hilariously decided to use the show as a platform to promote his own material. Now I feel I have to see it, just to prove a point.

Pandorum: No this is not the illness for people who think Pandora is real, and James Cameron is holding some sort of secret aircraft in his basement. It's actually a movie staring Dennis Quaid, who hasn't matter in a while, and Ben Foster, who struggles from extremely aggressive acting syndrome. My Review.

Other Releases: Gamer; Smoking Aces 2; Outrage; Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging, Come Dance at My Wedding, No Greater Love, According to Greta

Other Goodies:

Che - Criterion Releases: We've been waiting to be able to see this for a while now, I'm hoping it holds up.

ah, "Che" is brilliant. I was able to catch the roadshow version (all 4 1/2 hours) in theaters - great time.

You will see it on my Best of the Decade list (whenever that comes out). Although it's obviously not for everyone.

Whoops, I wasn't done...

Anyway, I'm going to wait on the Blu-ray set of "Che" because I so badly want to buy Roberto Rosselini's War Trilogy (Rome, Open City, Paisan and Germany, Year Zero) which comes out next week from Criterion. I haven't seen any of those films and I'm dying to.

eh, Whiteout and The Invention of Lying must be WB titles because they aren't available on Netfilx. Don't know if you heard this but WB and Netflix made a deal that Netflix will wait a whole month before releasing any new releases for rental. They say if you want the film before then you need to buy it! I have to say I'm quite disappointed Netflix sold out their customers for more money.

Actually it looks like the deal gave Netflix more of WB catalog to stream online. A plus for people who actually use that a lot. Personally I don't because I have so many actual physical discs to watch, so that 28 day waiting period is quite crappy IMO.

@Chase I'll have to see it, I just don't know when I'll have the time to sit through a 4 1/2 hour film!

@MVP Gah. If anything that sounds like it'll inspire more people to pirate WB films than anything. Perhaps they weren't thinking ahead?

The Invention of Lying was ok. It's a great concept but they didn't really do enough with it, and the way the plot was handled it could have been either a more thought-provoking character study or a hilarious comedy but in the end it was neither.

The best part is a very short scene involving Stephen Merchant and Shaun Williamson, teaming up again after Extras. This movie has a TON of cameos.

I'd be interested in reading what you think of The Invention of Lying. I just got done watching it and I must say I was pretty disappointed, I'll try to get my thoughts up this week.
