The Monday Corner 08/01/2011

New Movies Watched This Past Week:

Police Story 3: Super Cop - Michelle Yeoh is everything a female action stars should aspire to be, simply put.

Police Story 4: First Strike - There ought to be an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in choreography, let's be honest Chan isn't winning one for acting...

For your Consideration:

Go See Talk rounded up the movie blogging circus with their new blog-a-thon "Double Feature Theater" as the bloggers try and round up viewers to their ideal theater by hosting a seven day double feature marathon! Somehow, nobody did seven straight days of Step Up 1 and 2 back to back - lame.

Often times the best directors find the perfect actors to bring their vision to life, and do so on many occasions. Jim Turnbull over at Anomalous Material counts down his ten favorite director-actor combinations.

One should never drink and drive. But should one drink and drive thru theater? Such is the challenge Rachel of Rachel's Reel Reviews faces as she looks back on a few films that drinking got in the way of.

Big Thoughts From a Small Mind gets in the double feature spirit as he doubles back on two films that he saw again at a recent theatrical outing - Equilibrium and Ghostbusters 2 - how did the films hold up?

I may give him a hard time about being too generous with his scores - while he may give me a hard time about being too nitpicky - but when Mad of Dark of the Matinee whips out a 1 1/2 star rating and there's no hip hop dancing involved you betcha my 'woah' radar goes off in a hurry. Cowboys & Aliens, I believe you'd been put on notice.

Poll Update:
Kids movies win! Kids movies win!

Results: How often do you watch 'kids' movies?
1. 9 votes: All the time... because they're awesome (hellz yeah!)
2. 5 votes: Only the ones that get good reviews (then you're seriously missing out on some of the most awesome of awfulness ever)
3. 4 votes: Sometimes a few from my childhood but that's about it (fair enough, but be careful of aging out too much)
4. (tie) 1 vote: All the time... because I have kids (train them right), no kids movies for me (I'll shed a tear for you)

New Poll: Harry Potter has crossed the 1 billion dollar take, largely due to the ever growing oversea market. So I ask you, how great an impact do you think the amount of money to be made by the non-US market will have on Hollywood?

Movie Soundtrack of the Week:
Started reading Kurosawa's "Something Like an Autobiography" which inadvertantly reminded me of just how awesome the soundtrack to Yojimbo is! So here you are.

Have a great Monday everybody!

I once heard Michelle Yeoh be described as the Asian Michelle Rodriguez. So, you know, shit.
