It All Ends: The Final Obligatory Weekend Movie Post

It has been to my great shame all these years that it was so long before I answered the call to literature. For over two decades I wallowed in the cries anti-reading under the presumption that there simply existed no books to which I would ever be engrossed. I was wrong, and that's not the easiest thing for me to say. It took an act of willpower to get me to finally cave in and read some books on my own accord. Not to mention an onset of 'left out' syndrome.

So, with that a little over a year ago, I picked up the first book I wanted to read for my own in nearly a decade (prior that it was just school). That book happened to be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Flash forward two months and I was wrapping up the Deathly Hallows. Crack addicts were looking at me and going 'damn.' And from then on, I was hooked. I re-read the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Plunged into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And capped it all off with a brief stroll through Westeros and the four books of A Song of Ice and Fire. Now, I'm working my way through the His Dark Materials trilogy, and will soon cap that off before I take on either: Sherlock Holmes the complete works, Something Like an Autobiography - Akira Kurosawa, or A Dance With Dragons (the fifth book in the ASoIaF series).

Ah, what a journey it has been. A journey I desperately want to avoid acknowledging the ending of, but alas so it ends. And so I shall be there this weekend, ready and waiting to embark on my last journey to Hogwarts and the world of Wizardry... well until the eight film super extreme ultimate fan pack comes out on DVD.

However, that is not all I am here to talk about today. Today will also mark the last entry of the Obligatory Weekend Movie Post series. Over 80 installments, and enough eye rolling and gut busting to make as proud of it as anyone can be. It has been a personal favorite of mine since I first started doing it in August of 2009, and I will be saddened to say farewell to such a strong feature on LiE. But of course life goes on, and beginning next Friday I will have an all new series ready and wanting for you to enjoy!

So please join me in saying farewell to the world of Harry Potter and the randomness that has come to define The Obligatory Weekend Movie Post! Enjoy your weekend, everybody.

Goodbye "Weekend Obligatory Post"

... First to comment ... does that mean I'm famous?

Also, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings - you just described my teen years right there sir!

It is pretty weird to say goodbye to this franchise after so many years. I want to say that I felt the same way about the Lord of the Rings films, but the shock isn't quite there-- with one a year for three years I think we all knew and accepted the end date of that franchise and got past it even before Return came out, but Harry Potter films have been coming out over the course of nearly a decade. For that to stop is a bit hard to comprehend, yet here we are.

Can't wait to see this myself.

I will be seeing Harry Potter next week. I feel like I shouldn't rush to go out and see it, because it's the end and by all account, the best film of the series. I need to savor that moment!

Or maybe I will be in line at the movie theater on Saturday ahah...

So long "Weekend Movie Post".

I just saw Harry Potter myself, and it was brilliant. It is very sad to see the series end though. Check out my review of it on my blog if you get the chance.

I weep. Truly. You don't even know.

You don't know the extent of how much I'll miss Harry Potter until you picture a herd of high schoolers, not exactly together, but with the same goal, stampeding to the movie theatre down the block.

Of course, I liked this thing too.

No more FOWMP. I reel at the reasoning behind such a decision. But, You Da Boss...
