Obligatory Weekend Movie Post 06/10/2011

The day of reckoning is upon us. No, not that one, do I look like Harold Camping? I'm talking about it being Super 8 release day! *shivers in corner* please be good, please be good, please be good.

Wide Releases:

Super 8: Psyched, worried, curious... if this movie bombs I'll be sorely depressed. Not with respect to box office take, with respect to quality. I've read a lot of reviews criticizing the movie for being too much of an homage, but that really doesn't sound like much of a criticism to me. Not saying they're wrong, I can't say until I've seen it, but I can't recall the last time I read so many reviews from people talking themselves out of giving a positive score to a movie they admittedly enjoyed. We shall see...

Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer: How is this movie getting a wide release in the middle of the blockbuster season? Seriously? How? Can anyone explain that to me? I don't know anyone who knows anything about it, anyone who is anticipating and waiting to see it, let alone anyone who thinks it'll be a success. So what is it doing here? Not just that, but Heather Graham? I know The Hangover wasn't exactly the return to form she was hoping it'd be, but damn... low blow... real low....

Limited Releases:

Trollhunter: *shrug* Nordic horror films for the win?

The Trip: This movie/tv show/mini-series/whatever has been working its way around the map a long time before finally coming on over here. Love Rob Brydon's off-kilter dry comedic style, and Coogan has been completely wasted by his US castings. Would love to see this turn out golden.

Kind of looking forward to Super 8 although my anticipation has waned a bit given the lack of buzz. I will probably check it out next week.

This weekend, maybe go and check out Midnight in Paris again, and I have True Grit and Drive Angry if I ever feel like firing up the DVD player.

I hope to check out Super 8 this weekend too. As for Judy Moody and the Not So Bummer Summer..what kind of title is that? I'm sure it's based off of a book or something but that's just brutal.

Saw Troll Hunter Wednesday and thought it rocked!

The Trip is awesome, and I'm really excited for Troll Hunter after missing it twice on the festival circuit around here. Sounds like a cool film.

As for Super 8, well, if anything it'll probably be pretty, right? And lens-flarey?

Try attending a 10:30 A.M. screening of "Judy Moody" on a Saturday

I read those Judy Moody books when I was a kid, and I assure you, they weren't purple-puke colored.
