Obligatory DVD Release Post 2/1/2011

Tickle Me Elmo is universally accepted as the single greatest toy in the history of humanity. If you disagree with that, I'm sorry but you're going to have to be killed. It's nothing personal, but social decree dictates that's the way of things. Sure, I could exercise moral restraint. That would require me to resist the black hole of the cultural zeitgeist, however. And that's just not something I'm willing to do. They have amazing cheeseburgers there for god's sake. Who can say 'no' to that?

New Releases:

Let Me In: I've been thinking about this for a while now. All these Vampire and Supernatural movies about immortals who fall in love for teenagers and pre-teens. Since they're several hundred years old, in most cases. And therefore adults by most legal standings. Are these movies really about pedophiles? Sure, they may be casting teenagers in the role, but that doesn't stop the films from being about very old men (and women) falling in love with very young children. They just found a new way of glossing up the whole 'creepy' fat hairy guy bits. And to be honest, Let the Right One In doesn't even do that. Curious to see if Let Me In walks the 'untouchable' line.

Never Let Me Go: Unless of course you're holding onto a match and covered in gasoline. In that case, please let me go. No, seriously, love schmlove. If you're going to come in here dressed like that, there's no way I'm going to the party with you. I mean really, what would people say? "Oh, there goes Univarn with his gasolined suicidal girlfriend." Come on. I have a reputation to maintain!

As to the film in question: I want to see it. It's definitely high among the films everyone used the word 'depressing' repeatedly in reference to. So, forgive me if I give it a bit of time before I dive in.

Conviction: I have a bad feeling that the title to the movie Conviction was picked less for what it's about, and more for that stupid double play. You know, the whole "Oh yeah, conviction it's like totally about her brother who was convicted. But then, it's also like, you know about how this sister has conviction and believes in him. You know?" The sort of moments that blow the mind of twenty year old drug addicts. In my day you had to travel twenty miles, up hill, both ways, in negative five feet of snow for a damn good bit o' word play!

The Tillman Story: This documentary has been very high on my to see list. Can't wait. I honestly don't have any jokes to make about it.

Monsters: You know what would have made this movie better: Timon and Pumbaa. Seriously, if they broke out into song a few minutes in, the film would be CLASSIC! Without it, it's just another 'fine' adventure sci-fi indie hybrid.

Other Releases: Welcome to the Rileys (Goodbye to the viewers), Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 (this movie's existence is a bane on my soul)

Other Goodies:

All About Eve (Blu-Ray): Is this movie ideal for the blu-ray format? *shrug* Does this mean I need to just watch it already? Probably.

Amarcord (Criterion): Frederico Fellini sits in a long line of directors that I am well undereducated in. Perhaps this criterion release will help fix that.

TCM Greatest Classic Film Collection: They're releasing a John Ford set and an Errol Flynn set. However, I think you can pass on the John Ford set and not miss a beat. They have some delectably awesome sets though (often three-four classics for 20 - 30 bucks).

Alright ladies and gents, that's all for you this week. Enjoy your self and happy hunting!

I think you're on to something about the vampire movies.
Elmo over the Slinky? When did this happen? Oh yeah, right after millions of kids found out the damn thing doesn't go down stairs worth a crap... And if your dog finds it, game over!

All movies are about pedophiles. Point at any movie, and I'll tell you exactly why the main character is either a perv or was a victim of a perv. It's a talent, really.

@Mad I do agree, quite a quality week for releases.

@rossmcg I like that look... something about it just screams "I'm interested in you but I want to eat you... foooooooood"

@Aiden Good to know, will do when I get the chance

@AlexJ Exactly, there's too much collateral damage when it comes to slinkies.

@Simon Sounds like you need a comfortable couch in a room near someone in a chair with a clipboard. Preferably that someone should be a psychologist but I'll leave that up to you.

Definitely want to check out Never Let Me Go even though it got mixed reviews. Mad raved about it after all. Not too interested in seeing Let Me In and Conviction.
