Live Out Cinema
You've been given a once in a lifetime opportunity. A brand new machine has been created that will allow you to enact one scene from one film as any character you wish. I'm not talking about playing a video game either. This is full on virtual reality the way science fiction has always dreamed of it. However, there's a catch. The second you finish that scene the machine will be destroyed and the time needed to recreate it will far exceed the span of your lifetime. So here you are. The entire catalog of cinema as you know it at your disposal. What do you pick?
Now I know it may be a cliche choice by most people's standards, but I'm going the Star Wars: A New Hope Death Star run every single time. Oh, and of course I'm going as Luke. Why? Because he's the only one who manages to blow anything up! Even though I have always had a soft spot for Wedge (he never did get enough screen time... *tear*). Besides, the intensity of the moment, the ability to fly a space fighter. Oh these would be far too enticing for me to pass up. But then again, that's just me.
What I want to know is this: What scene would you go for and why?
22 better thoughts:
If it can also magically turn me into a cartoon, I gotta go with the test flight scene from HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON.
there're so many possibilities... I can pick scenes where I get to sleep with the hottest actresses, or I get to kill the most annoying characters/actors ever...
But I guess I'm going to have to take a note from you and Hatter and just live a fantasy
I'm going to be Marty McFly in Back to the Future when he plays Chuck Berry at the dance... that moment just seems historically epic.
...This is tougher than I thought it'd be. I'd also be pretty happy re-living How To Train Your Dragon's flight scenes but in lieu of that I'll take the final fight against the undead pirates in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. As Jack Sparrow, of course.
@Mad Great selection (and a timely one). I wouldn't be surprised if flying is one of those commonalities on this question... assuming I get more than three responses.
@Andrew I say go back to the future now and complain about having not taken advantage of sleeping with the actress later.
@Sugary Nice choice, would be fun to go back and forth between alive and dead for an all out duel on immortal levels.
Easy. "Groundhog Day."
@ Yojimbo: Well, would you really want to relive that days thousands and thousands of times? I read an article a few days ago in which the author calculated that Bill Murray relived Groundhog Day over 12,000 times!!!
There's superhero potential here. Spiderman, Superman? Probably Superman. In one of his less dramatic moments. Just having a nice time, flying around.
Um, ANYTHING in Inception. I'll be Ellen Page, because I'm a girl and she has the creative instinct to design awesome things.
Though I definitely agree with that final battle on A New Hope. I'd live in Star Wars.
I'd also consider the scene in Return of the King when Eowyn kills the Witch King. I'm all about girls kicking trash. :)
Umm because no one is going for the obvious lustful desires, I'll go be with being Almasy/Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient and have sex with Kristin Scott Thomas, and because the "machine" is so awesome it wouldn't mean that I die at the end.
So many great moments! Neo at the very end of the Matrix? A scene from Blade II as he kicks ass? Not to be cliche, but I'd probably go with your pick as well.
Not usually one for sci-fi, but it seems like a waste of this machine to go with talky scenes. I'd probably want to witness the scene from Sunshine where the Captain and Cillian Murphy are fixing the heat shield.
Or that scene in Magnolia where Julianne Moore tells the pharmacist to suck her dick. Either one.
@Yojimbo I did say only one scene, no trying to get out of it by replaying the same one over and over :P
@Castor I keep hearing different dates for that. I heard from somewhere that they were saying abot 40years...
@Chris Then if I was you I'd take one of the flights where he's traveling around the world - maybe heading back to his ice palace
@Lauren The downside to the Eowyn fight - mass damage (psychological and physical) taken. Assuming you wouldn't feel those, then yeah I can definitely see that. Though I'd go Legolas shieldboarding down the stairs, arrow in hand, in Two Towers
@Andrew Well I have to admit I didn't think you'd break the sexuality mold, but I can't same I'm surprised by your selection :P
@AlexJ Who wouldn't? Besides, you could write it off as research.
@blake Good to know you keep your options open :)
The seduction scene in 'From Russia With Love' where Bond and Tatiana Romanova meet. Classic Bond.
Is it weird that I kind of want to be Anne Parillaud in Sex is Comedy? She's just so cool in it...
Not Nikita, though. I'd get heart failure.
I thought all day about this ahah. Mine would be the scene in Gladiator in which Maximus finally reveals his identity to the stunned Commodus and then have the crowd behind you.
@edgar I think living out just about any Bond moment (minus the fighting for life ones) would be an appreciable experience.
@Simon No, it's not weird. However it is weird that you're worried about it being weird. Which I believe makes you meta-weird
@Castor Lots of free time? That would be a fun scene to play out if for no other reason than to have his name roll so eloquently off the tongue.
I think I'm going with the final game in Teen Wolf.
But I'm not choosing Boof in the end.
Blake's choice in Sunshine is pretty cool, save for the sad end to that scene.
Groundhog Day is an inspired choice, but we're only playing out scenes here, yes? That's more of a full movie choice.
I'd like to be Tony Curtis in the scene on the boat with Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot.
That or Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man when he flies around LA in the suit for the first time.
@Fletch Are you trying to tell me Dylan that you aren't the guy strolling down the stands all natural at the end? Well, there goes another LAMB myth *sad*
@David We all want to fly, but you can't beat Marilyn Monroe.
I'd definitely switch out places with Maria de Medeiros in Henry and June. Just to sleep with Uma Thurman. I'd die a happy lady.
OR I'd switch places with Indiana Jones doing...anything. Because he has the most epic adventures. And he's Indiana Jones. C'mon.
Strolling down the stands? Scott was playing in the game - what would he be doing in the stands?
I want to be Colin Firth at the end of Love Actually, getting all of Portugal to follow me as I pursue the love of my life. With that score in the background, of course.
