"Hey look, it's the Obligatory DVD Release Post. Only the most awesome generic post to come out every Tuesday. You know, without this post I think I'd find it hard to cope with my futile existence. Thank you for making the world a better place Uni."
- What I imagine my fans say
"Hey look, Uni's still doing Obligatory DVD Release Post. What a weird guy. Anyone else in my blogroll written anything interesting? Still early I suppose. Guess I'll comment anyways."
- What my readers actually say
It's OK because deep down I know you all desperately need me! By desperate I mean arguably... by need I mean tolerate. Hey look, a chimpanzee bitch slapping a koala bear!
New Releases:
Winter's Bone: I find it rather depressing that upon hearing the title Winter's Bone, which I'm sure makes great sense in the context of the film, I can't help but think this is a film about a dog (named Winter - duh) searching the countryside for its bone. Unfortunately that sounds incredibly Disney, to the point of being some horrid potential Pluto feature film (granted we all know Pluto was always the most awesome of the bunch). As for this movie I can promise a review up tomorrow or Thursday (depends on how quick I am to get around to it). Lots of great praise, hope I can keep myself in check.
Sex and the City 2: Honestly, they couldn't have released this on a better week. There's so much make up put into the making of this film you'd think they had summoned Lon Chaney back from the grave to see what he could do. I don't mind the motives of the film, I just mind migraine inducing boredom centering around a group of self bemoaning women. If the first film is any indication of what to expect in this one I'd rather spend an evening as a record-keeper for paint drying studies. It might not be more interesting, but I won't lose near as many brain cells in the process.
The Girl Who Played With Fire: To be honest I've only seen the first 30 minutes of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (something came up and I never got around to finishing it). I'd rather like to see the whole thing, but finding time for 2+ hour movies has not be abundant as of late (trying to work on some non-blog related projects). Besides this week (with the exception of two reviews) will deal a bit with my brief endeavor to become more cinematically knowledgeable in the realm of horror cinema. So, off I go!
Other Releases: South of the Border, Altitude, Lake Placid 3 (there was a 2?), Clapham Junction
Other Goodies:
Alien Anthology (Blu-Ray): All 4 Alien films come out on Blu-Ray this week. I own the first 3 on DVD, and to this day feel no desire to invest in the 4th one. If I ever get around to buying a blu-ray player perhaps I'll bother to invest in this. I'm in no hurry though.
Back to the Future (25th Anniversary Trilogy): I know there are a lot of detractors when it comes to the 2nd and 3rd installments of the BttF trilogy but I'm nothing if not a fan of the whole thing. I love it all. Every moment of it. As far as I'm concerned this, parred with The Frighteners (yes, I love that movie), earns MJF a lifetime cinematic pass.
Paths of Glory (Criterion Blu-Ray): A gripping, intelligent, war film from Stanley Kubrick. You can check out my entire review of the film, here. Then head on out and get a copy of it for yourself!
There's some other stuff coming out this week, like an Elf collector's edition and another Chaplin collection, but nothing I feel a need to go into. Happy DVD hunting everyone!

10 better thoughts:
My top choice this week would easily be WINTER'S BONE.
Second choice? WINTER'S BONE.
If you can't find those than a third option could be WINTER'S BONE.
I must buy Paths of Glory and Back to the Future trilogy Blu-rays. Unfortunately, I am broke right now. I will put them on my Christmas list though.
Also, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is pretty damn good, you should find the time to finish it. As for the sequels, they were good but don't really live up to the first one.
Definitely finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! I will probably give the sequel a shot one of these days. Also, Winter's Bone is a keeper :)
"It's your kids Uni, something's got to be done about your kids!! It all stems back to you finishing Girl With A Dragon Tattoo instead of buying the Back to the Future Anniversary Blu-ray! We gotta go back...TO THE FUTURE!"
I had my sugar this morning.
@Mad I'm going to be checking it out very soon. Should have my review up tomorrow. You going to be getting Paths of Glory?
@Rick I just need to find the time. Trying to catch up on horror this week, hope to finish it next week.
@Castor Good to know :)
@Sugary WAHOO! SUGAR!!!!
The Frighteners! Now that was a great flick. I'm sure many Jackson fans have never seen it. And I'm sure most of his fans have never seen Dead Alive! Best usage of a lawn mower in a movie - ever.
I found The Frighteners sorely lacking, but Back the the Future... the whole series is butter (which is good) and I'm looking forward to the video game that's in production right now that's going to be like an adventure / RPG type deal. It's one of the few series that I could probably watch once a week and never get tired of. I cringe thinking of the day someone TRIES to remake this series, and someone will eventually.
@AlexJ I still need to see Dead Alive. It's on my list, just never gets high enough for me to make the move towards it.
@MVP Unfortunately I'm willing to bet that day isn't too terribly far off, and most likely going to involve a trip back to the 80's (I desperately hope not but that depends on if the producers can look at VH1 for a decade of note). I really don't think its a re-creatable formula because it builds off so much of the era it came from, and the charisma, and style, of the actors involved.
I was able to get my ex back after I followed the instructions at www.saveabreakup.com I totally recommend this site, saveabreakup.com helped me a lot, all I can say is big THANKS!!! I'm so happy now...
I'm less enthusiastic about "Winter's Bone," but I'm curious to hear your reaction.
