The Monday Corner 6/7/2010

MTV Movie Awards were last night. I know this because I signed onto twitter to see 50 people talking about them. I thought about turning it on. Quickly remembered, I could be doing a Sudoku instead. Opted against MTV Movie Awards. Finished 1 Sudoku Puzzle. Somehow, despite all the winners of the moon guy (none going to Moon = communism!) last night, I feel I am the real winner. Sometimes in life it's the little things.

For your Consideration:
A whole mess of amazing posts to consider for this week.

Best blogging buddy, the Mad Hatter of Dark of the Matinee, celebrated his birthday this past week! With that comes his annual tradition. Listing the films he challenges himself to see in the upcoming year. Get over there and check it out!

Rachel's Reel Reviews is in need of a new tagline, and needs your help! What's in it for you? Oh, only $20 for Amazon and DVDs if yours is selected. But hey, you'd help out anyways, right?

Danny of The King Bulletin is venturing off into the world of filmmaking, uploading the first cut of his short film: Empty. Be sure you supply feedback, and, above all, your support!

Everyone's favorite movie nut (hehe) of Life of a Cinephile and Bibliophile is feeling quizzical, in a manner of speaking. She wants to know, why do you participate in blog-a-thons? Is it to be noticed? Or is it something more?

The big question Film Intel is asking this week: Will we ever see a good video game adaptation? Both sides of the argument viewed. And only your opinion awaits!

Anomalous Material
hands out the first F I've ever seen them give. This in the direction of the lovable classic crapfest Troll 2. Oh what fond 2am (questionably intoxicated) memories.

Japan Cinema is counting down the top 10 Donnie Yen movies. Don't know who he is? Head on over and find out! And question all the awesomeness you've been missing over the past 10+ years.

Poll Update:
Well I think it can be safely said, you don't like dog movies. On the plus side, I'm sure they don't care much about you either.

Results:
1. 10 votes: Annoy me to no end (fair enough, they do get repetitive. But I do love Beethoven)
2. 4 votes: Only allowed if a cat is involved (*yawn* dogs > cats, and yes I just went there)
3. 3 votes: Put a smile on my face (here we go, my kind of people).
4. 2 votes: Disallowed in my house (curmudgeons!)
5. 1 vote: Make me want to cheer (it's ok lone soldier, we salute you)

New Poll: Well A-Team is on its way, whether you want it too or not. I want to know: TV to Film Adaptations, what's your feeling? Generally speaking of course.

Interesting Film Fact of the Week:
While working on The Wizard of Oz the dog Toto (or perhaps better stated his handlers) were paid $125 per week. Those who played the munchkins only made $50 per week.

Always a pleasure to be featured on the Monday Corner (kind thanks)! I'm with you on Dogs vs Cats by the way... not that I want to stoke the fires on that argument or anything...

Although the MTV Movie Awards are about as useful as a chocolate fire guard, it does produce some excellent little comedy skits. I've not seen this year's event but I'm guessing the latest skits will appear on You Tube in the very near future.

now, I must act as the voice of reason here: the results of your poll again show how this world has gone terribly wrong. Can people really be that cold, skeptical and cynical to throw this amount of hate on movies with cute little animals while drooling over kick-ass violent movies and immature bloodshed actions? This is deeply disturbing.

Very funny on the joke. Thanks for the mention, BTW.

MTV's still around?

And yes Dezmond we'd rather watch violent movies than incredibly bad talking dog films, in which good plots and decent acting is not even attempted. All these films are simply a plot to exploit children to annoy their parents to spend $20 a ticket! Take the kids to see animated films but the live action talking animal films have to be stopped, just like Sex In The City has to be stopped!

@Intel Yeah, fire and cats and dogs don't mix. Or something like that. Always a pleasure to link to yah :)

@Dan I'm convinced you can find anything on Youtube if you know where to look. People get pretty creative with the naming and uploading of copyrighted material.

@Dez I love dogs, but I find lots of dog films to just be insultingly moronic. Not all mind you, but far too many. Then again they're aimed for children, so what do you expect.

@MovieNut14 No problem.

@MVP There's something to be said for that. I don't think all talking dog films are bad, and as a kid I was quite fond of a few of them. They suffer because they only ever seem to have 3 or 4 gags, of which they drag on for film after film. I know there's not much you can do with it, but at least try to make it interesting, and refreshing.

@Univarn - I'd like some examples of these good live action talking dog films you refer to. Other than the original Homeward Bound I can't think of anything.

Univarn said...

@MVP Hmm, off the top of my head I've always had a soft spot for Homeward Bound, Beethoven, and Fluke from when I was a kid.

Snipes said...

@univarn - I don't think Beethoven talks.

Univarn said...

@MVP Ah, yeah, nevermind that one. There's a lot of not so awful cartoons. Up, original 101 Dalmations, Lady and the Tramp, but not so many live action.
