Obligatory Weekend Post #30

Dear Hollywood,

You killed my father, prepare to die.

Sincerely Yours,

Univarn.

Wide Releases:

Robin Hood: There's something about a closeup of someone shooting a bow and arrow that is just awesome. Though we all know the undisputed arrow closeup winner is Charlie Sheen from Hot Shots Part Deux (flying chicken = awesome!!!!!). So, Mr Crowe, what can you bring to the table? Anything short of 50 yards into space hitting Nottingham on a rocket will be deemed unacceptable. Now, the arrow is in your court (?), how shall ye respond?

Just Wright: Has anyone built up a better resume of films in which they quite literally stand around with a gun the entire time than Common? I'm betting you could put all his dialogue throughout his 5+ films into a 5 minute clip. So, how will he handle the lead? Never been a big fan of Queen Latifa, so if I ever dare watch this, he'll have to be the saving grace.

Letters to Juliet: Is it possible to smell cheese through a television? Because this movie just wreaks of it (*insert generic comic drum here*). Seriously though, I've never seen a movie look quite as generic as this one. Not that it's a bad thing, I'm sure it'll be ate up by those who seek it out. Personally though, I'm putting this in the not my cup of tea bin, and letting it sit.

Some limited releases this week, but nothing with any buzz that I know about so I'll leave it be. Good luck with your film hunting this weekend?

Note: By the time you read this odds are I will be in the middle of my graduation ceremony today. Hope to have some pictures up this weekend. Laters all!

Love The Princess Bride reference.

I believe The Good Heart (Paul Dano/Brian Cox indie from the guy who did Noi the Albino) expands to Boston today but that's the only other thing I can think of. Pretty low-key movie weekend.

Have fun at graduation! Any tips you have would be appreciated (mine's next Sunday).

Robin Hood... here I come.

Man, the critical response for all three of those films has been weak and actually the one that appeals the least is Robin Hood. Ridley Scott has a way of taking these kinds of movies and making them bleak and overly serious. Just Wright is from the dude who did Something New and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, which means he has a lot of skill in this genre, and Letter to Juliet looks like one of those cheesy ones that you may give a pass to just because it's what you need every once in a while.

@MovieNut there's not situation where an Inigo Montoya reference is uncalled for. It's the universal statement.

@Alex I haven't heard a lot of positive buzz for The Good Heart (mostly lukewarm to negative). If you catch it, let me know :)

@TheAnswerMVP Hope you took your special film wearing goggles.

@Lippert I can give cheesy movie's a pass if they're entertaining, but it doesn't look quite so much. Ridley Scott's a serious man when removed from his wine (ever seen the guy interview? he's like a brick wall).

I'm going to see Robin Hood. I know the reviews have been middling but whatever, it's my man Russell Crowe in the trenches. Can't leave him alone!

Robin Hood looks like Gladiator. I'm just saying.

@Castor I think it'll be better than critics make it out to be, not sure when I'll be able to see it though.

@Simon I think that's more a product of the commercials than the film.
