Obligatory Weekend Movie Post #31

Wow, what a week huh? Lots of personal posting recently so I suppose I should mention films every once in a while. I mean this is a "movie" lover's journal. Granted the only reason I went with that was because A Life in Equinox: PORN 24/7 was too flashy for my tastes. But then again, you all know what daddy likes. (who the hell is daddy? who would watch you do porn? this is just retarded, I'm going to watch Leno).

....it's hard to win battles with your subconscious (damn right, now let's get this rolling).

Wide Releases

MacGruber: You know it's the modern cultural references that has really helped set SNL apart these past few years. They're natural ability to zone in on the major fan groupings of society and spoof them. It's an uncanny skill only Lorne Michaels could possess. Then again when you have Will Forte, Kristen Wig, Ryan Phillipe, and Val Kilmer hamming it up for you, you may be able to survive without it. No matter how it may survive some critics, I feel that R rating kills its box office chances. Granted my head is still bopping left to right every time Baby Don't Hurt Me kicks on, so perhaps I'm not the best of film judges?

Shrek Forever After: Alternate titles debated before settling on this: Shrek 4 - Milking it for All, Shrek Forever After... until Shrek 5, Shrek 4... 3... 2... 1..., Shrek 4 - Paying the Bills. Yeah, they're not all that funny. Then again, this movie doesn't look to be all that funny either. OOOOOOOOO SNAP! Did I just insult myself and the movie at the same time? You bet I did. Skills ladies and gents, just skills. You know what the sad thing is, I actually still love the first Shrek film.

Limited Releases:

Holy Rollers: Is it just me or can you secretly imagine this being the ultimate documentary about rollerblading Jehovah witnesses. Admit it, you'd watch it just for the sheer awesomeness of someone have the door closed on them as they slowly roll away. Oh, it would be priceless! Quick, someone get on that. Oh yeah, this movie looks shockingly mediocre. Pretty much to the point that I can only feign enthusiasm as I await other people's reviews before making up my mind on whether or not to see it.

Solitary Man: Michael Douglas.... the first time he hits theaters since his role in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (the only real redeeming quality of the movie). I hope this is good, but haven't heard anything about it. But with a cast of Douglas, Eisenberg, Fischer, Sarandon, DeVito, and Mary-Louise Parker it can't be too bad right?

I didn't find the MacGruber trailer funny at all. I guess it went completely over my head but I don't think it's going to do very well.

I kinda want to see MacGruber. Like, really bad. Anyway, all those alternate names are surely funnier than the third movie.

Hatter, we thank ye for the sacrifice.

@Mad Like Simon said we thank you for your taking up this difficult mission. If you should not come back we will hold a 20 blog salute in your honor.

@Castor Me either, but it seems to have peaked the curiosity of many bloggers.

@Simon Good luck with MacGruber. Shrek 3 was quite awful, but they did try... well, almost tried.

I don't like ripping on Richard Dean Anderson, but that's just me. I'm not impressed with anything I've seen attached to MacGruber.

Shrek, unfortunately I'm obliged to see because my younglings want to see it. I really was no fan of the Third.
