I've been debating for some time now if I should pull this series or not. Two Obligatory posts in a week feels like unnecessary room when compared to the other things I could be writing about. Alas, oh well, I shall go on until you lovable readers stop commenting. Then I'll just cry myself to sleep.... but, that doesn't have to happen if you never stop commenting, *wink wink*
New Releases
Invictus: Was it just me or was the sexual tension between Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon in this movie the most dynamic part of it? Paging Ang Lee, I've got your lineup for Brokeback Mountain 2 all setup! As for Invictus, it's one of those movies people do love to hate on. And while I'm usually up for a good hating, this movie left a smile on my face long enough I couldn't dare. It's definitely flawed, but I enjoyed it, cheese aside. My Review
Valentine's Day: Now here's a movie I could get behind hating... only one problem, I haven't seen it. So, here's the dilemma. Do I watch it with the knowledge that the odds are heavily weighed in favor of hating and ranting. Or, do I instead, not watch it, and just forget about it all together. Perhaps I'll add a new poll to my site: DVD Request Selection. I'll put up all the movies I haven't reviewed yet and whichever gets the most votes, I'll review by the next tuesday. If you like this idea - comment away!
Extraordinary Measures: Dear CBS films, you should avoid hyperbole when naming your films. I hardly call 50 feet an "extraordinary measure." Seems reasonable enough. Besides when you have Ford yelling and Fraser daddying, what do you expect? They're both in need of a hit if they want to stay in the game... this wasn't it.
The Messenger: Slow melodrama lead by a non-crazy Woody Harrelson, a toned down Ben Foster, and a not psychic Samantha Morton..... this is some bull****! *weeps in a corner* It could have been epic. It could have been something for the record books. But they just couldn't make it work. No twinkies and drugs for Woody!? I mean come on!!!! The man has needs you know. Oh, right, sorry, I got a bit sidetracked. This looks good, maybe I'll watch this.
The Spy Next Door: Odds of me watching this: -20%. That's right, this looks so awful it defies basic math principles. You just can't touch that sort of (non-existent) talent.
Others: The New Daughters & The Girl on the Train
Other Goodies:
Walkabout (Criterion Blu-Ray): This movie has always looked interesting to me, but I've yet to take an opportunity to check it out. With this release, that may very well change.

*As in real life, Jack Nicholson takes a Best Supporting Actor prize during
the 1980s. But not for TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, however.*

with reg. to 'Valentines Day' save it for next year. Only watch it on said day and, when you do, make sure you have many people to share the experience. Conduct a drinking game that is bound to end in tears: evry time a character use the word - or a variation of the word - love, everyone drinks. That way, you can't go wrong.

Okay sexual tension between Morgan and Matt...at least that would have made Invictus interesting, but your thoughts are still twisted...glad to see graduation hasn't made you less twisted.
I'm getting a sugar high with all the crappy rom-coms I have been seeing the past couple weeks so I think I will skip Valentine's Day for a little while. But you are right, it looks so terrible that you are drawn to see how bad it really is. Still have to see the Messenger.
By the way The Messenger is excellent (says me) easily one of my top 5 last year, Ben Foster is excellent in it.
@simon I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the suggestion!
@Andrew Me, twisted? I reject the thought. By the way, next poll will be: underwear while writing posts - yes or no?
@Castor I understand, and won't hold it against you. But, a good romance, every once in a while is just what the doctor ordered.
You made the jump to Blu-ray yet?
And Jackie Chan seemed to have jumped ship a long time ago, although I never found his films that great to begin with, but now they're simply "Eddie Murphy" bad.
