1. Who cares? Really, besides you, find me 50 people who honest to god care.
2. Record keeping. Even archivists front people the 0's as the year's 1 to 9. When you discuss the 80's do you really go from 1981 to 1990? Nobody does that, it defies our preference for associating things by numerically same decade. And guess what record keeping is? Preference.
3. Definition: "a period of ten consecutive years." Does 2000-2009 not count as a period of 10 consecutive years? Oh, it does now? So guess what? It is the end of the decade!
Really, get off your high horse. If you want to pick something worth championing on every forum why not aim for something worth aiming for. Go outside and volunteer at a local youth club or homeless shelter. Aid meals on wheels, participate in a local cleanup. Really, do ANYTHING else with those 4 hours a day you spend raiding forums for this. It's pointless, and your constant "Am I the only one who gets annoyed..." stance only results in one answer: YES, it is just you so shut up already. :)
The end of this tangent.

I'm confused as to when this started. I mean you can't blame the people for getting annoyed. It is kind of annoying.
OMG OMG OMG it's the end of the decade????!!!!??? OMG OMG OMG a decade older? Ten years less to achieve my goal of world domination?!? :))
Ryan, I somehow feel you will like this question: is 2012 really gonna bring the end to the world??? :)
Always good to feel that whole 'right, i could have done that year/decade better' feeling. Time for reflection. I love it. Birthdays. Reflect. Christmas. New Year. Millenium. Reflect ... what the f*** have I done with my life? Anything decent? Am on my path to happiness? Is this what I want to do for the rest of my life? No? Time to change.
Hehe, interesting points. This is one meme-type-list that is just popping up everywhere. If I was writing about film in 2000 I might do it, but not big on top 10 lists so ... meh.
I totally appreciate the point of view of it not being a correct measure, but memory and the passage of time feel like they want to blur those lines. And even 1989 and 1990 are only 1 year apart, they feel radically different and even moreso for 1999 and 2000.
