So I figured I'd revisit this today after a conversation I had with a buddy of mine recently. We were in the lab designated for computer science and math majors, carrying on a random film conversation. As usual I managed to forget the name of every movie ever made (it's a gift), and he was talking about the BBC series Neverwhere based on the novel of the same name, and recommending it. Well while we were having this discussion, somewhere between me recommending the British comedy In the Loop and him discussing remakes of 90's Japanese horror films, a 3rd man in the room, who up until now had remained quiet, decided to chime in with this little gem:
"Dude Transformers 2 is the greatest movie of the year, no doubt."
There's three things the matter with this statement. First it starts with "dude," automatically telling you everything that follows meets the following two criteria: 1) it'll be a statement only the kings of douche could say and 2) it'll contain no unique or individual thought. Second where in the conversation we were having about obscure indie films, foreign horror films, and novel to film adaptations did it occur to him that chiming in with Transformers 2 would be well received? Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I could forgive most of it to be a mainstream viewer only, no argument, but he had to go and throw in "no doubt"at the end of it.... none? no doubt whatsoever? You've seen all the films, weighed their technical, personal, and interpersonal benefits and concluded that Transformers 2 was the supremo uno? Ugh.....
