Out on DVD Today

A good week for DVD releases overall. Many independent films will get their chance to shine, while some classics will find their way into the realm of Blu-Ray.

The big DVD release this week is obviously the Russell Crowe thriller State of Play (review), which features the all star cast Crowe, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, and Ben Affleck. Also on DVD this week are independent hits Sin Nombre and Sugar. The two films have received heavy amounts of buzz, and I'll do my best to get copies of them to review in the upcoming weeks.

Other films being released this week include Disneynature's Earth, and straight to DVD Bring it On: Fight to the Finish (the first in the series to not star a white blonde, talk about motivation).

In addition Gladiator and Braveheart are getting the Blu-Ray makeover today, and will likely see a big rush at local stores with deals for the classic duo popping up all over the market place. As well the classic dark military comedy M*A*S*H will also be getting the Blu-Ray makeover.

In addition to the above, other films getting Blu-Ray releases today are: Monster (2003 film, Best Actress Oscar for Charlize Theron) and The Girl Next Door: Unrated Version (the 2004 film that forced all men to drool over Elisha Cuthbert).

So overall not a bad selection of movies for you dvd lovers out there :).
