The Monday Corner 07/11/2011

New Movies Watched This Past Week:

13 Assassins - More on this to come!

For your Consideration:

What's more exciting than all the cheesy sci-fi posters you can handle? All the cheesy, but still awesome sci-fi posters you can handle! Where Danger Lives, I salute you.

How do you know you've done a post that's received the full seal of approval by all your fellow bloggers? Easy - everyone's linked to it before Uni can get a chance! No matter. Dark of the Matinee examines the summer of 2011 - both the good and the bad that was, and the good and the bad that may be.

George C. Scott was a scene maker. There's no denying it. He walked in and everyone's senses perked up. Of course making his role as Patton a perfect choice for Let's Not Talk About Movies' Don't Make a Scene series!

Indiana Jones - as iconic as he is replicated (but not in a Blade Runner sort of way... I think) - and as such he has spawned an army of look-alike minions to spread his gospel (and whip) around the world. Kai of Man, I Love Films counts down the top 5 Indiana Jones clones!

The Droid You're Looking For counts down the 50 greatest French films of all time! My god, I have some serious catching up to do!!!

Poll Update:
You hath spoken, and Azkaban is your champion.

Results: Favorite Harry Potter Movie to Date?
1. 10 votes: Prisoner of Azkaban (anyone up for a weekend getaway?)
2. 4 votes: Half Blood Prince (the other half is on layaway)
3. (tie) 2 votes: Order of the Phoenix & Deathly Hallows Part 1 (BFFs!)
5. 1 vote: Goblet of Fire (my soul brother right here)

New Poll: All this talk about the Transformers series has gotten me thinking: do you feel a movie should ever be "Critic Proof?"

Movie Soundtrack of the Week:
Look on the bright side - in a few weeks you won't have to hear quite so much about Harry Potter! Until then, however - total domination!

Have a great Monday everybody!

I doubt there will ever be a movie that's entirely critic proof. Wasn't it Lincoln who said you can't please all of the people all of the time but you can please some of the people some of the time?

Actually, I think a porn star said that...Lincoln said "you can't fool all the people all the time" (but he never knew about Michael Bay).

Thanks fo' the hat-tip, Uni'

Thanks much for the linkage, sir.

Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
And some of the people can be all right part of the time,
But all of the people can't be all right all of the time.
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
'I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours.'
Bob Dylan said that.
